Bill in Congress for the resumption of economic aid to Haiti
Elected officials of both Houses of Congress have introduced a bill Wednesday to promote economic recovery in Haiti, devastated by the earthquake Earth January 12, they said in a statement.
The bill aims to create jobs in Haiti by facilitating Haitian exports to the United States for certain textiles, practicing exemptions from customs duty.
Text plans to expand and extend until 2020 the trade policy already in place between the U.S. and Haiti, to the benefit of the stricken country.
"The devastating earthquake in Haiti took the lives of hundreds of thousands of our Haitian neighbors, and they need our help to rebuild their country," wrote in news Democratic Senator Max Baucus.
Mr. Baucus teamed up with his Democratic colleague in the House of Representatives Sander Levin and Republican Chuck Grassley of the Senate and Dave Camp of the House to table the bill.
