ESTABLISHMENT OF TWO MAJOR PROJECTS IN THE COURT OF SLOPES:
A law library and legal assistance project
The Society is pleased to announce the general public and lawyers, court staff and the litigants implementation of two projects which are of particular importance: it is a part of the installation of a law library in the courthouse of the Slopes and secondly the establishment of a Legal Assistance Office (BAL), which will ensure real access to justice regardless of the resources of litigants.

Installing a law library
This first project was conceived at the inception of the Bar in the jurisdiction, to the lack of access to legal data, and shortcomings of the judicial system linked to a gaping lack of training. This library project aims to promote real knowledge of laws and legal fight against misapplied and often arbitrary law.
This project owes its rapid introduction to the seamless collaboration of the NGO libraries without borders who immediately involved in the project and the address of Daniel Mugerin, a lawyer from Paris who has strongly expressed its solidarity with the Bar. We have already recovered 225 books sent from France and some twenty books purchased directly Haitians in Haiti. We hope to quickly complete this first documentary background, thanks to a new shipment of BSF as well as partnerships with other networks and institutions.
The library is open to lawyers and attorneys, magistrates and judicial personnel, but also to students and all citizens. In this context, it is intended to contain literature but also books on publicity and education accessible to the general public. An effort will be made to accommodate persons wishing to be guided in order to appreciate the different works. In this regard, we thank TSO has provided the Secretary of the Society to participate in a one-month intensive training focused on the management of holdings.

The establishment of the Legal Assistance Office (BAL)
The legal aid project for its part is at the heart of the motivations that prompted the creation of the Bar of the Slopes. Upon this foundation in fact, the founders of the Society have expressed their belief in the need for effective access to justice for everyone, access can only be guaranteed through the establishment of economic procedures to compensate for the economic insecurity for the majority of litigants in court.
After much research, the Society has finally found funding for this project through the support of MINUSTAH, which was able to secure funding from a Swedish organization. This project will be led by a staff of 16 people! At its head, a lawyer performing the function of coordinator and Lawyers called two activists to frame the professional work of less experienced trainees Lawyers and equipped.
This program over a period of one year is essentially put in place to ensure access to criminal justice. However, the Society intends to seek other co-financing in order to extend its scope to civil matters provided that the disputes are mainly related to issues of property rights in the judicial jurisdiction of the CFI of the Slopes.

These two beautiful projects will get under way during the month of February 2011. The Society will invite you soon to launch their joint which should take place in early March!
The establishment of these two projects in early 2011 is certainly hopeful in a time when the political situation in Haiti unfortunately very unstable. The Society hopes and expects that these projects will help stabilize the situation in the jurisdiction of the Slopes and fight against violations of human rights that unfortunately proliferated during this election period, despite strong and repeated interventions of the board of order and with Bâtonnier courts and authorities.
The Society reiterates its desire expressed at the opening of the judicial year in the sense of awareness of the institutions of their responsibility in the reconstruction of our country and building a free and democratic society in Haiti based on the rule of law and the avoidance of arbitrariness.
